How to Easily Define Stratagem for Murder: Divert Attention

Ah, mystery! A great way to define Stratagem. You’re going to like this book!

Today’s Celebrate Lit book review is Stratagem. I picked it because it is a mystery, and I haven’t read many mysteries lately. The blurb / teaser sounded great!

If you watched the TV show Psych, where the main character pretends to be psychic but is actually a good observer, and solves crimes for the police, you will appreciate how Grayson uses his psychology degree to study all areas of a person’s life, and predict almost to the second, each person’s reactions to his carefully planned events!

The technical way to define Stratagem is a ploy, scheme, untried and underhanded method. And really, I think that applies so well to murder! I was especially excited at how well this applies to the murderer!

Behind the Scenes: Robin Caroll Shares Her Inspiration for Writing Stratagem

Dear Reader,

Thank you for journeying to New Orleans in a web of deceit and confusion with me. Sharing a place that has such connection for me was a pure joy. South Louisiana offers such a laid-back attitude that I often miss “home.” I hope you’ll enjoy sampling a taste of the flavor of Louisiana.

Years ago I watched the movie The Game with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn and was enthralled. There’s just something grabbing about messing with a person’s mind and life by using their own feelings and instincts against them. When this story of Stratagem first began forming, I wanted to use all that intrigue to mess up the game master’s life. The end result is quite the ride!

As the characters came alive to me, I found the theme of forgiveness and acceptance coming out in the story. Some of the emotions within this story are very personal to me, and I’m honored I was able to share them with you. It is my wish that you may be touched by Grayson’s faith journey as well.

Until next time. . .

My Review

The decisions of the past affect the present. We hope for good, but sometimes it’s the less stellar choices that come back to us! Anna Belle had made enough enemies that finding her murderer wasn’t easy. Grayson’s insider knowledge as a former consultant with the police had some unforseen effects on the case.

How does a murderer define Stratagem?

Mind games.
Testing the limits.
Risky, but oh so rewarding if successful.
I like to read mysteries. Especially when I can be proven wrong, and proven right at the same time.
There’s at least 10 people who could legitimately be suspects. I picked 2 to be my main suspects. It turned out that I was right about one of them, but I was way wrong about the motivation!
I read enough books that I can usually predict things well. When I get a surprise like this one, its a nice treat ?
Watching the detectives battle each other’s prejudgements and struggle with Grayson’s “meddling” (i.e. attempts to clear his name /solve the mystery) was both frustrating and fun.
In this case, I would define stratagem as a very complex plot, packaged with distraction and diversions, and coming together perfectly in the end. If you like mystery, and getting the scoop from each of the main characters directly, you will enjoy this book!
