#1 New Wizard of Oz Allegory: No Space Like Home

Swirling Starfield

I’ve encountered more than one Wizard of Oz allegory in my life, and more than one of them has been very Sci-fi in nature. I especially enjoyed the movie on the Sci-fi network a few years (decades) back. I have to say, though, that today’s book, No Space Like Home is by far the best. This book takes on a Wizard of Oz Allegory with both futuristic/spacetravel fun, and the Good Shepherd into the bargain. It’s like a perfect collection of my favorite elements! Were you a fan of the Wizard of Oz movie growing up? I’m sure the splash … Read More

Yellow Background, Finding Joy: It's a Choice, It's a Lifestyle

“Finding Joy” by J.C. Lafler is a story about the challenge of finding joy in life’s most trying circumstances, and corresponding verses in the Bible that lead us to choose joy.

This book is inspiring, and filled with hope in the midst of trials. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a light read, willing to accept a personal challenge, and not afraid of a few tears!

Fun Light hearted books full of adventure

Here’s a series of funny, light hearted books well worth reading! I couldn’t put Aiming for Love down. It might have something to do with walking a baby who wouldn’t sleep, needed to be walked, and I can still navigate the house while reading on my kindle. But I doubt it. I think it was the storyline. It was very compelling! Brides of Hope Mountain is a unique historical romantic comedy trilogy of funny light hearted books. I’ve now gotten to read all 3, and couldn’t put them down. We have one of those fun combinations today. It’s a Celebrate … Read More

A trip to The Painted Castle should do us all some good! Kristy Cambron does an excellent job with the travel arrangements! I mean, traveling about the world, and back and forth through time should be exhausting. But Kristy takes us on the adventure with a smile and a wink, and the only jetlag involved is that which comes from staying up too late reading (again)!!! (Who, me? Would I do such a thing?? Yes. Absolutely! 100%) This book is on tour with Celebrate Lit, and we are privileged to share a spotlight from them. I also received a copy … Read More

Author Steven James Books Are Great Christian Suspense Novels

ArynChristian Fiction2 Comments

I thoroughly enjoy Sci-Fi. You can call me a Trekkie and I wouldn’t mind. Shows like Sliders and Eureka are fun! But they all lack that thread of faith, of being able to trace the fingerprints of God. I also enjoy Crime shows like JAG and NCIS. They cover some awful stuff, but Justice wins. A little graphic sometimes, but satisfying to see the good guys solve the case. Steven James new book, Synapse, has the best of both of those, without any bad language or graphic displays that you have to cover your eyes for. While this is a … Read More

Culture Shock: How One Girl Challenges Assumptions

ArynChristian Fiction14 Comments

I’ve seen Culture Shock examples a few times, but until I read Past Forward, I had no idea how many cultural assumptions there are in my own life! Nothing quite as dramatic as Willow’s but: If you want me to know something, you will tell me. (drives a few people in my family crazy, because they ask me questions and all I can say is “I don’t know, I didn’t ask” ) It’s hard to Enjoy downtime  because my brain is thinking of all the things I “should” be doing. I’m still trying to connect the Christian churches in the … Read More

Emotional baggage check: Baggage is everywhere, and yet we’re often surprised by the effects of it.   It gets packed by us, and by others. 3 Biblical Allusions In Christian Fiction To Keep Watch For

ArynChristian Fiction16 Comments

In my opinion, Biblical Allusions are one of the best things about reading Christian fiction. I find Gospel parallels in literature are a great educational tool.   You can find out more about why authors use Biblical allusions in literature and those best Gospel Parallels below the book review, but first:   From Celebrate Lit, here’s the latest in Christian Allegory / Fantasy and Gospel Parallels! Keeping Your Promise When It’s Hard

How important is keeping your promise? On a scale of one to ten, where would you place the importance of keeping your word? I would venture to say that It’s not meaningless (1) but is it a consistent 10? Jesus said: “let your yes be yes, and your no, no.” (Matthew 5:37) Basically, mean what you say, and follow through. A lot of things are easier said than done, or we wouldn’t be urged to “count the cost in advance.” Can we talk about what keeping a promise means for a bit, then I will share a great book I’ve just … Read More
